I regret to say that I am losing my farm, and cannot take my dogs with me.  Most have been rehomed: Thorn & Maggie have gone to Brittain's Family Farm in Mikado, Michigan.  Willow, Angel, and Teddy are residing at Freedom Valley Farm in Sweetwater, Tennessee.  Ruth, Lena, and Luna have found their permanent retirement homes.

It's not all bad news, since I will be turning 69 next month and it's become harder and harder to wrangle the big dogs.  Sweet wheelchair Milo is going with me and I will do his diaper changes for as long as I am able.  It's a good thing I invested in a Hoyer lift five years ago!

My dilemma is the dogs left that are much harder to place.  I hope that you can share their stories so they, too, can find their forever homes.  One is in danger of euthanasia, as she was starved during her first year of life and now must be fed separately from other dogs.  Journey is a sweet girl who loves her humans and makes gorgeous puppies, but I don't know of any no-kill shelter who would welcome a resource guarding dog.

I will leave the Flashlight Farmers website active until March when the renewal comes due, and the Flashlight Farmers Facebook page up for as long as possible, until scammers and spammers start flooding the site with posts.  If the page disappears, search for my personal page, loretta.pipkin.9.  I will still be available for updates and advice through Messenger or email.

Thank you to all of my families who have loved and cared for their Flashlight Farmers dogs.

We're expecting!

You may remember my original Pocket Pyr, the little boy who entered service dog training for a little girl with PTSD.  Bear Claw was so loved, learning commands that would enable him to accompany the girl and reassure her when she awoke from a nightmare or visited a doctor.  His future was so bright!

Fast forward to August, 2025.

If you have room in your home for another dog, my original pocket Pyr just turned two years old and has come back to me.  He will be looking for a family who will give him lots of healing love, who will not abuse or neglect him.  His service dog family moved out and left him behind to starve.  When I was alerted to his condition, I brought him home.  He weighed 54 lbs, less than the average six month old male, and was badly infected with sarcoptic mange.  The mange has been treated, and he has a final dose of Advantage Multi on September 13th, then can continue gaining weight and regrowing his coat under the love of a new family.  Before being abandoned, and at least before the onset of mange, he was raised as a house dog.

Pictures are of Bear, only 3 lbs at 6 weeks when he left to receive in-home service dog training, a picture the owner said was taken in June with his coat in dreadlocks, and Bear today.  He is housetrained, absolutely will not potty inside, used to sleep with the little girl until she lost interest in her fluffy puppy, and still remembers some basic commands.  Bear is a littermate of our Teddy, parents Luke & Aspen.  Bear is AKC registered and intact.  You can choose to neuter when he arrives, or pay for my vet to perform the procedure before leaving for his new home.  Bear is safe with chickens and cats, but his best home would be as an indoor dog with outdoor privileges.

As a puppy, we called him YoGURT!  He was so tiny, he received bottles with puppy chow smoothies and I fed him vanilla yogurt to encourage him to eat more and put on weight.  That spoiled little puppy would stand in front of the refrigerator and squeal like a teapot until I took out the yogurt container to appease his addiction.  Today he is eating twice as much dog food as the other adults, being served puppy chow for the extra calories and a generous helping of vanilla yogurt morning and evening.  He still loves yogurt.
The bonus is that if you are in need of a service dog and are within driving distance of Cullman, Alabama, his service dog trainer will provide one year of training at her residence in Cullman.

Bear's littermate, Teddy. Bear should look like this.
Flashlight Farmers Journey Home is the daughter of our Honey & Titus.  She is three years old and spent the first year of her life living with her owners in a tent and van in upper Michigan.  When they could no longer care for their dogs, she arrived at my house two years ago weighing 72 lbs, much smaller than her current healthy 98 lbs.  She is AKC registered and currently intact.  You can choose to spay her when she arrives, or pay for my vet to perform the procedure before leaving for her new home.
I am losing my farm and cannot take her with me.  Journey is no longer acclimated to the livestock she lived with as a puppy.  She is familiar with cats and safe with cats who are used to dogs and will not run.  She is a sweet girl and attentive to her babies.  Journey has lived outside and has come into the house when she has puppies.  She is comfortable inside, house trained, and will wait until she can be let out to potty.  My Yorkies have cut across her room and she ignored them, but because she was not raised with small dogs I have not let her have unsupervised time with them.  She does like to romp with large dogs like herself, and is especially fond of cohabiting with males.  Journey has shown no desire to challenge fences.
Journey has been OFA health tested, including hips, elbows, patella, Brainstem Auditory Evoked Response testing for deafness, and genetic screening for testable inherited diseases.  Hips scored Excellent and all other tests were normal.
Because she was starved for so long, she does not like other dogs being near her food.  She should be fed separately from other dogs, and no food left out to guard.  Once the food is removed, she's ready to go back to socializing and playing with other large dogs.

Just look at that cute face! Mateo is 4 months old and currently residing in Indianapolis. He is the son of our Lena and Gunner.  Mateo is living the life of a beloved house dog, but two members of the household have asthma and have found that dog dander is affecting their health. He is a sweet and playful boy who will forever live in their hearts, but they must rehome him. He is up to date on deworming and vaccinations. He has not been around livestock for the past couple months, so would need close supervision for awhile if you have a farm. Mateo has a small, easily reduceable, umbilical hernia that his vet advises can be closed at the time of neutering. If you happen to live south of Indianapolis in my normal delivery area, I am going to be in Indy September 20th and October 6th, and may be able to give him a ride to his new home.
Mateo has no behavior problems and is not free.
